Cyprus Visual Diary – Latchi Area

I started my Cyprus diary with the most important part of the trip last week – of course I am talking about all the stray cats – so today I figured I would actually write about the real purpose of my stay. I was invited by Cyprus Tourism Organisation to take part in a health & wellbeing trip including yoga lessons, spa treatments, various herbal discoveries and a lot of delicious mediterranean cuisine. We packed a lot in only a few days and also covered a lot of ground so I figured the easiest way to share it with you was to divide everything up by town or district I visited.
We flew in to Larnaka airport with Cyprus Airways and then drove to Latchi (this takes about 2 hours, so be prepared!). For the first 3 nights, we stayed at the Zening Resort which is a good place to stay for yoga aficionados, but not so great if you are only after a spot of relaxation with friends. The rooms also vary wildly when it comes to comfort and decor so do make sure you ask for a Deluxe Nirvana Studio. I stayed in a Karma Apartment and let’s just say it was pretty rudimentary and not quite the nurturing atmosphere I expected. This aside, the grounds of the resort are lovely and with two pools and many different classes to pick from, you will be spoilt for choice. Location wise, if you use Latchi as a base you will be able to explore quite a few spots both in the Paradise Hills (about 30mn drive) and in Paphos (about 45mn drive). There are also some interesting sights much closer to the Latchi such as Vasilikon Winery, the Baths of Aphrodite or the lovely “Heaven On Earth” Herb Garden in Pano Akourdaelia.

Have a look below for some snapshots of my stay there and there will be a map at the bottom of the post compiling all the places I visited.

The Baths of Aphrodite – the cave is said to be where the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite used to bathe. According to mythology, this is where Aphrodite met Adonis, after he stopped for a drink while hunting.
It is said that if you bathe in the water you will be given eternal youth or you will fall for the next person you see…
