MRLA – Jablonsky / Dime A Piece / Halloween

Jablonsky is a supergroup formed by members of all the good indie/shoegaze/noisepop/dreampop bands from Tijuana and San Diego in the mid-90s – Loopdrop, Staura, Glugan, and Tristeza. Their sound is rich and beautiful, especially when playing live.

Dime a Piece are Laura Fama and Ashley Jones, an L.A. based design duo creating modern pop art-themed prints on t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, leggings and tank tops. Among their fans are Fergie, Estelle, and Chloe Sevigny.

This Halloween weekend was quite busy! Starting on Friday night, I threw a going away/ Halloween party at  Don Loope Cantina in Tijuana for my favorite teen witch Dani Shivers (she is moving to Mexico City). It was really fun although I couldn’t take many photos since I was djing and looking after the sound the whole night behind the bar! However, my friend Ken Ove, who helped me host the night, made a photo recap of the party on his blog Factory Boy .
Saturday was the annual Zombie Walk Tijuana, which I missed because I slept all day, but my other friend Jason Fritz documented it on his blog Tijuanalandia. In the evening I went back to Don Loope to see Jablonsky perform and to hang out with some friends who were wearing some of the coolest costumes. It turned out to be another lovely night!

Back in L.A. on Monday night, the actual date of Halloween I went to Moustache Mondays for their Halloween Ball which is always a lot of fun, and the costumes where no exception! Here a few of my favorites of the night.

I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in a couple of years, but this time with all this Madonna “coming back-without-her-really-making-a-comeback” I thought I’d put in my two cents and got inspired to be a part of this revival nostalgia – which also marks the 25th anniversary of “True Blue“. I decided to pay homage and make my own boy version of her “Papa don’t preach” ITALIANS DO IT BETTER outfit which has also been one of my favorite Madonna looks to date.
