Happy Monday everyone! The sky is pretty grey here but I have a feeling it is going to be a brilliant week. I am going to be ever so slightly off topic today and speak to you about weddings. As you may know, I got engaged last year and then we both kinda forgot about the next part of it (the wedding). I had found my dream dress thanks to a reader, but it sold out in my size before I could save up enough to get it, despite all the donations (they will be used for the wedding dress fund anyway!).
Anyway, We finally got the ball rolling now and we are getting married in April. So since the Willow dress is no longer an option, I need a dress. Not a wedding dress, because the whole theme for our union is pretty much "this is not a wedding", but something pretty I will be able to wear again after the big day.
I am sure you can tell by how different all these dresses are that I have no idea what I actually want to wear. The only things I do know is that I want my dress to be short and to not be a wedding dress. I also want to wear flat shoes and am pondering wearing a vintage dress.
Have you come across some cute dresses that I should know about?
Correction - the Willow dress is magically available in my size again on 25Park, but since I can't try it on, I have no idea of the fit and am a bit weary of buying my special dress online in the US in case it doesn't fit. Gah.

hmm so tricky. I do LOVE the Marlene Birger one tho. (But black for a wedding?!) LLGxx
ReplyDeleteExcellente nouvelle!!!!
LLG - Black for wedding is ok as it is the most non wedding wedding possible. The MB one is my second fave after the Willow.
Love the Anna Sui and Marlene Birger dresses. I saw a really cute short non-wedding dress on a wedding blog the other day which I thought you might like to see...

Will keep an eye out for other gorgeous ones :-)
Check out ruffledblog.com. They have great ideas for weddings, most of which don't LOOK like traditional weddings. :) Not affiliated with them BTW.
ReplyDeleteI love a lot of these dresses, but the willow one just stands out... and i think it would be perfect for your wedding! If i were you, i would buy it from the US (making sure that they will ship it asap!), and try it on when it arrives. My reasons are this: 1. If it does fit, you have your dream dress 2. If it doesn't, you can sell it on or have it adjusted. You can always keep looking for a back up dress if you order it! Its just too lovely... xxx p.s. Congratulations!!
Very excited for you et puis tres bon choix de mari. Bisous ma belle, je pense a toi ... TOUT LE TEMPS
ReplyDeleteLook at this Marc by Marc Jacobs one... it has hearts on!

You're tall enough for a maxi dress and they don't have to be wedding-y. Oasis have a gorgeous silk one (which I bought recently) and it's so versatile: http://www.oasis-stores.com/Double-Layer-Maxi-Dress/Maxi-Dress/oasis/fcp-product/4470058758
ReplyDeleteMaxi dresses can be a bit daunting if you're not really into them but they look so great on! Just make sure it touches the floor.
Or...just get the Willow dress. It's so dreamy.
xx
ReplyDeleteSapphire - I really really hate maxi dresses so I don't think I will go that way. But I know they look great on, just not for me!
I fell in love with this dress when I first saw it - it's probably not really what you're after....but I felt the need to share it. Isn't it just.....cute...?

I think you should risk it and get the dream dress. It is your wedding day and you should be wearing your dream dress. They 25park has a return policy if it doesn't fit or you could bring it to a seamstress to have it altered. However I do understand your reservations of ordering it online.
ReplyDeleteMy second and third choices are I love the Erin Fetherston dress b/c it has that flared out ballerina thing going on and the Anna Sui dress is just beautiful.
xo
ReplyDeleteAn April wedding will be nice! Congrats. You could wear a paper bag and still look good, so you have nothing to worry about ;)
<3
I love that you're wearing a dress that isn't strictly a "wedding dress". I toyed with the idea of doing something radically non-wedding-ish myself right after I got engaged (but unfortunately, some family members were set on having us do a "traditional" wedding. But that's another story... :p). I really love the idea of a brightly colored dress too--the color of the last one would looking stunning on you!
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding your dream dress--I can't wait to see what you hunt down! (Congrats too on the upcoming wedding!! :)

These three are charming little dresses for you!
I agree with everyone else that if the dream dress is available, take the leap and get it! The Anna Sui and Erin Fetherston are gorgeous as well, though. I totally feel you on the "wear it again" non-traditional dress idea. My dream wedding involves a dewy park in the morning and a cream and gold embroidered shift dress. :) Good luck making your choice!
ReplyDeleteI like the Maline Birger or Peter Jensen ones . . . and I love that you're not going traditional wedding with it. That's the only thing that scares me about getting married . . . the whole white dress/ cheesy ceremony almost makes me want to be an old maid forever.
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding the dress!!
All of these are gorgeous, my favourites are the Erin Featherson & the Birger. Have you thought about Brown's Brides? They have lots of special but not weddingy dresses from labels like Chloe, etc.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I have a horror of all full length dresses (wedding, maxi, red carpet..) so I think I would buy a 50's prom dress and have it tailored to fit! Plenty of my friends have spent thousands of pounds on duchesse white satin with beading, so spending a fraction of that on an amazing dress you can wear again sounds much more clever.
ok donc first congratulations ! (oui, je savais pas)
ReplyDeleteensuite, je choisirais number 3... et...i'll keep my eyes open
The willow dress is perfection! YOu must find a way to know if it fits.
ReplyDeleteIf not, I'll go for the Fetherson beauty here :)
