MRtv - Dealing with negative comments

A stream of negative comments on Mademoiselle Robot and reading this post on KoS and Gala's article about Female Jealousy made me decide to post a video about it.

    You had me cracking up when you had the bag over your head! Everything you were saying was so true though; perfectly candid, while still being absolutely charming about it.

    I'd love to do a video blog about this, as well. I've gotten some nasty comments on my blog as of recently, too, & while I tend to let them roll off my back, they're still there...

    PS; I love your voice. Being an American girl, I find accents to be the bee's knees! You are adorable.

    Aimee Marie - I will never turn off Anonymous comments because I do think that a blog is a forum for everyone to express their opinions, positive or negative. I also publish all comments, unless they are just pure insults, in which case I reject them.

I've been reading your blog awhile, but thought this would be a good time to jump in and comment. :) I've seen some comments like this on other blogs, and they're absolutely ridiculous. It's sad because you can tell the people who do that have no better way to spend time and are completely jealous. I don't understand why they keep coming back, though! If I don't like a blog, I simply don't read it.

  28. the nature of my work means i am exposed all the time. when i was ill and lost weight people said i had an eating disorder.
    when i don't have a girlfriend people say i am gay.
    if they see me with my best friend they also say i am gay.
    i wonder what they say when i walk my dog.

    i think your site is nice and unpretentious, i enjoyed the interview too.

I love listening to you! :) I think this is perhaps one of the nicest, most adorable ways of addressing the whole "trolling" issue I've ever seen/read (and I've been online for over 10 years, so I've seen a lot!). Perfectly put, Mlle. R! What springs to mind is something my mother used to drill into my head when I was a child: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. ;) Although like you, I don't mind a bit of constructive critisism, I think the rules still apply in our little virtual corner of the internet.

    Oh... and I agree with Rhiannon: I have huge female jealousy over your accent! ;)

  37. Wow, MR, I simply loved the video. You are cute and very funny. Actually losers who want to do things like this real life cannot do so and considering the fact that internet is the solution to many things, they land here.

    I haven't got comments like this in my one year of blogging but I have heard from a friend that many people in my Indian network of twitter say things like I'm a show-off etc. Such kind of criticism is worse because it's not just limited to my comment section.

    By the way, cool new site design and header image! New fonts too, though I liked the older one better.

    Once again, you are awesome, MR. Way to go!

And it's very true, online people find it "fun" to play the rude/anonymous game, I hardly doubt they'd come over to you in a bar, sit at your table and say those exact same nasty things to you in person.     I'm actually known for strident comment-making, however, I like your whimsical style.

    I do find the suggestion that all criticism is born of arrant jealousy somewhat laughable. I have to say I found Gala Darling's small thesis on jealousy risible and rather jejune. But, hey, I'm certainly for female solidarity and she does win back a gold star for the Bikini Kill quote.

    Ms Vitriol - Strident comment making is great, I don't really do PC either, but there is a way to get your point across. A polite and articulate way that makes it acceptable. Calling someone a fat bitch never solved any problem, even if I have to admit it feels good. In private, in your diary!
    As for the jealousy, I would love to think that all the people who comment negatively are jealous of me, it puts happy balm on my ego, but I know it is not. There are many reasons for neg comments. x

    This is one of the best vids I've seen in the net. I'm actually afraid of those persons who write evil comments :) really, who are they in real life? What kind of person spends time with a bag in their head :D?

    One of the most precious lessons my mom gave me when I was a kid was "Never write something you wouldn't sign your name" This was ages before the internet...
