What I am wearing / Service Nautique

This dress is another big favourite of mine. Even when it used to be knee lenght. It is a vintage French uniform for the Service Nautique, in other words, the French equivalent of the Navy. Despite its colour it has a definite nautical feel to it, so I have to break it by wearing it in a not so nautical way. I used to wear it too literally, with a stripey top and white tights (which is also cute), but I wanted to give a go at making it into something else. Nothing crazy, as you can see, just a nice everyday outfit - another one. I know I am showing a lot of everyday outfits, but I am not exactly doing anything at the moment apart from working, and sometimes meeting my friends in the evening for a more than welcome drink.

I am completely unable to live without these shoes at the moment, especially as they are extremely comfortable and I am still able to walk and dance wearing them, which is rare, as I am a recently reformed flats wearer. Heels and me, it is a long story. I used to wear them a lot, then stopped because of ankle problems, then started again, then stopped, we can't seem to decide if we are made for each other or arch nemesis, heels and me. At the moment, we are all lovey dovey, and the family is expanding, but who knows... By the time summer comes, we might break up again. Or maybe not. This time I feel it is forever. I found the type of heel that agrees with my retarded ankle, and they happen to be widely available at the moment, so I better stock up. I like chunky heels and hidden platforms. I also love wedges, but the boy spent so long lobbying against them (his arguments are totally stupid by the way, in case you were wondering) that instead of having to endure his constant anti-wedge badgering, I sort of gave up on them. Don't get me wrong, I never listen to him, nor am I a victim of Male oppression. I just like to let him think he has a say in some things, sometimes. I love him really, so I have to compromise. I wouldn't want him to go around wearing sweatpants now, would I?

Anyway, that was a long rambling, just about a pretty basic outfit. That won't happen again, I promise. All this to say, really, that this outfit is a winning combination for me at the moment. I have a lot of winning combos at the moment actually, which is why I am not posting many outfit photos, or else I would just post the same again and again and again.

Am I the only crazy shortening ALL my dresses? Do you like heels or flats? Do you have a favourite type of heels? Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body.

just to point out that "the boy" does read your blog and all my arguments against the wedge are legitimate!

  3. That dress is so cute, very interesting that it's a French uniform, I wouldn't have thought so at first glance. Those shoes look gorgeous too

  4. I seem to shorten all my dresses too! I feel bad sometimes, cause it will be a dress from the 30's, but I wear it more when its shorter! At the moment Im a flats girl, but it's hard walking in the snow in heels. :o)

    Love the dress!

  5. I think you look very cute. I shorten all my skirts and dresses because I'm 5'1 and worry I look too short in long things. Then again even if I was 6 foot tall I think I'd still like everything to be short... And definietly all about the heels babeh!

    xx

P.s I read that you pulled out of the Vice project to on Queen Michelle/Marie's blog. I thought it was going to be quite amazing with all the great bloggers involved but once I started reading about sex and nudity (not in a tasteful or discreet way!) etc I knew it was time to get out!

Lol at you and the boy! Your comments are funny! I too have been on a shortening frenzy. I feel I can get more wear that way. Heels are my friends, but I need some daytime heels... ie: walkable. So I feel your dilemma.

  9. I am pretty sure I have that exact chair (the weaved one) but in sunshine yellow. I picked it up at a boot sale for about £1 years ago and I absolutly adore it.

AND I love that dress, the outfit you have matched it with really works.

  10. Fab outfit and FAB shoes. I like chunky heels best too. I always wear heals and everyone always how I can do it, but chunky heals is my secret.

I am suprised your boy doens't like wedges, most of the boys I know (who I have asked such question too) think wedges are super cute and pretty hot.

    Love your blog.

you always look so cute !!!

i definitely like all of my dresses shortened. i hate long dresses unless they're knee-length. it really depends on the type of dress it is. but mainly, short dresses i like so they need to be shortened!!

& i most definitely prefer heels over flats but i can't walk in a lot of heels! :x if i'm wearing flats, they're simple brown or black pointy flats. or if i want to change it up, i have some wacky bold colored ones with polka dots & bows so i'd wear those. but i love heels. maryjane heels, strappy heels, oxford heels, etc. etc.

and i definitely love the tight sweater because of the way it tightly fits your body!

    love,
    dayna

  12. Always high heels! Unless I'm schlumping the boys to school in a birkenstock and dressed in bag-lady attire! A hidden platform is also a favourite of mine....and a mary jane....love love love a mary jane!

  13. I am not shortening my dresses. I flop down in chairs and forget to be ladylike, best to wear dresses that reach near my knees to avoid showing off the goods.

Shoes, I like heels with a bit of chunkiness to them. I fall on thin heels.

  17. You're not the only dress-shortening crazy - I do it lots of the time too - the worst is when I get too impatient and over excited and end up cutting too much off...

but so many dresses, especially vintage look great uber short.

  18. I like heels. And I shorten some dresses and not others. When I was in my early 20s, I thought everything had to be supershort to be nice, but now I like to wear some pieces long.

Those shoes are indeed fabulous and you look fantastic in them. I love heels but mostly I opt for comfort. My feet just can't tolerate the abuse anymore.

By the way, love your decor!

P.S. I think you should refer to "the boy" as "the moose" in the future. I like that.
