Monsieur Robot – Ostara by Penhaligon’s

When Penhaligon’s release a new fragrance it’s always a cause for celebration. With such an extensive range of classic fragrances already in their armoury it always surprises me that they continue to work so hard producing new and innovative scents. But then you don’t get to be the champion in your field by resting on your laurels do you?

Ostara is the name of their new offering and it’s quite literally, a breath of fresh air; especially in a market bogged down with cheap celebrity endorsed products and remixed fragrances. Created by master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, Ostara is a conceptual fragrance inspired by the life cycle of a daffodil. The olfactory journey that comprises top notes, heart notes and base notes is used by Ostara to recreate the scent of a daffodil from bulb, to bud and finally to bloom.

Top notes of clementine, bergamot, juniper, violet leaf and blackcurrant bud give way to heart notes of hyacinth, beeswax, hawthorn and wisteria. The base notes of vanilla, musk, amber and white wood are deliberately powdery, invoking the pollen inhaled when smelling a daffodil in bloom. It is for me a perfect remedy to the drudgery of winter. Sadly it won’t be available to buy until Spring, but don’t fret it’s well worth the wait.
