Oliver Spencer turned out a fantastic show for AW13, it was one of those collections where the more I thought about it the more I liked it. It’s a peculiarly British aesthetic, I would say ‘dandy‘ even though that word is horribly overused and rarely appropriate. It’s a pretty hard look to pull off without it looking cheap or fake and rarely is it modern, but that’s where Oliver Spencer really excels. There is reckless abandon when it comes to bare ankles, which might prove a little unpractical for Autumn/Winter even if it does look good. I love the use of colour, Oliver Spencer isn’t afraid to throw a bit of colour around and I feel like other designers, even those who do use colour don’t use it with the same confidence as he does. The styling is pretty smart too – from glasses to immaculately groomed moustaches and beards. The key look for me however is the striped suit. Never in my life have I lusted after a suit, any suit, until this one. It might not be the kind of avant garde fashion you usually hear me talking about, but these are clothes I would wear in real life, every day and that’s probably the biggest compliment I can give to Mr Spencer.
