A lesson in French beauty basics

Sometimes I am just *that* French, I wear stripes, a beret, eyeliner and red lipstick in one crazy frogs legs flavoured combo.
I know a lot of you are into that particular make-up style so I thought I would share my wisdom with everyone...

First, there are a few key items you should always carry with you, as demonstrated below:

makeup

♥ black liquid liner (2True from Superdrug - not glam, but damn good and dirt cheap)
♥ pressed powder (Stay Matte - Maybelline)
♥ pink blusher (Rose - Bourjois)
♥ red lipstick (Super Stay - Maybelline)

I love this look because it is really easy to do and it will perk up your face on days you are feeling / looking a bit tired. The only tricky part is to apply the eyeliner, but it comes fairly easy with some practice. If you want tips on applying eyeliner, please have a look at my video here

I know you often hear that you shouldn't wear heavy eye make-up and red lipstick. It is actually only half true. You can, but only if you dress down. Here for example, I am only wearing a striped tee and jeans.

The main things to remember to recreate and wear this look are:

♥ Keep your skin nice and even with powder and/or foundation.
♥ Don't overdo it on the clothes, your make up is already pretty strong.

  1. Love these tips! The eyeliner always looks so stunning on your eyes. If only I had the shape of your eyes to reproduce this at home!

  2. I am very grateful for your make up video, I was thinking of spending £15 on Benefit's Babe Cake but instead just went and bought the 2True eyeliner, which is working great. Now I've just got to work at being able to do it in under ten minutes! Although some people might consider the lipstick and eyeliner too much, I think it tends to be more if you've got a lot of eyeshadow on, and I think the eyeliner always look quite simple if striking. Also, I love it when you look really French, embrace your wonderful national style!

  3. What a great post, you look amazing, your eyeliner is perfect! I have been considering learning how to do eyeliner for awhile now (currently I am hopeless), and I have somehow missed your video posts so I will have to come back when I have more time to watch them and absorb your advice. Thanks :-)

  4. I usually avoid liquid eyeliner for day wear as I'm paranoid about getting it wet. I guess if I avoid that outer corner of my eye, I can also avoid the wind-in-my-face-tear-induced smudge! Might give it another go.
