Soulland is a Danish brand which has been on my radar for a while. It was founded in 2002, but it’s only in the last few years that the label has really become a part of the British menswear scene. There are lots of emerging menswear brands around at the minute but most of them aren’t doing anything particularly interesting.
I saw the AW15 Soulland collection at a trade show ages ago and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. The collection feels like a real person’s wardrobe rather than a collection, and by that I mean there’s a pleasing range of everything from slogan tees to tailoring. There’s a certain sophistication required in blending these somewhat disparate elements together and creating aesthetic harmony. There’s an incredibly confident use of prints, but then Soulland isn’t for wallflowers. It takes a certain type of man to wear a top with the word “Erotic” printed on it. The collection also includes plenty of more considered and timeless pieces and it’s this breadth of scope that really sets the brand apart from its contemporaries.
