Loulou’s Guide To Cruelty Free And Natural Beauty

For a long time I have managed my health and wellness holistically. I eat for what best suits my body and I remedy ailments via different types of healing methods and bodywork. I decided I wanted my make up and skincare to match up to this so the chemicals and animal testing had to go!
I’ve been trying out products here and there and these are the ones that work for me – I’m very fair, with dry but blemish free skin. I don’t like to wear much make-up so for me it’s just the essentials!

Face + Body (pictured above)

Tropic Smoothing Cleanser w/ hot cloth + Skin Revive Nourishing Cream

I was introduced to this brand via a wonderful trial facial using the products. I was hesitant at first as can sometimes get itchy after beauty treatments, however my skin LOVED all the Tropic products and I have been using them ever since.
I use the cleanser + hot cloth to remove my make-up at night and the moisturiser in the evening.
The thing I love about the brand is that the products are derived from 100% pure plant extracts. You can basically eat them! They also really surprised me with the price: so affordable. I’m hooked.
Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream SPF 30

I purchased this in Los Angeles recently when looking for a moisturiser with a high SPF and so far I’m in love. I’ve been using this as a day cream. It is a blend of herbal extracts, plants and essential oils and smells like a dream. It’s a little more expensive than Tropic but no more than your average decadent pot of moisturiser
Herbivore Botanicals Glowing Hydration Body Oil Camellia + Jasmine

My new apartment building is currently covered in jasmine and I’ve become obsessed with the smell, so when I was tipped off about this brand and saw they have a jasmine scented body oil, I was all in. I’m currently using this as perfume and it’s the most perfect subtle fragrance. Of course all natural. I can’t wait to try more of their products.

Make-Up

Bare Minerals Pure Brightening Serum Foundation SPF 20 in Bare Porcelain and Original Foundation SPF 15 in Fair C10

I’ve always struggled a little to find the perfect face make-up as I am very pale. I like to describe my skin as a shade of Victorian ghost. I also don’t like to be caked in make-up, especially now I live in Los Angeles where I’m embracing the bare face as much as possible! I tried Bare Minerals for the first time at the end of last year and so far I love these for my skin. The serum foundation is illuminating and so light, just enough to cover any patchiness but subtle enough that you don’t look like you are wearing make up.
If I want a heavier coverage or to cover dark circles I use the Original Foundation which is a powder and stays put without looking caked on.
This is the perfect product if you want a little extra glow. Made mainly from coconut oil, it’s an amazing highlighter and isn’t sticky, hurrah!
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics cosmetic colour lip pencil in Grandma.

100% vegan and cruelty free, this liner does the job, no complaints!
I am super fussy with my lipstick, I like it to be matte with not even the teeniest hint of a shine. I love this product as it smells like ice-cream but more importantly doesn’t budge for an entire day. It goes on like a gloss and dries matte. I love this bright orange shade as it matches my hair.
I was given a couple of these as a gift. At first I thought they were too dry, but then realised you just have to put on some lip balm first, then the colour and ta-dah! A really long-lasting matte lipstick!
Kjaer Weis Eye shadow in Earthy Calm

I am very blonde so I need to fill in my brows. I use this eye-shadow with a slanted brush and it’s perfect. I’ve heard great things about the brand in general, they are always listed in the best natural make-up lists.
Tropic Lash Extension Kit

Tropic again! I haven’t used another mascara since I tried this one over a year ago. It gives me longer eyelashes, without the “spider legs” effect. I used to always sneeze when applying mascara, probably because of the harsh chemicals inside, but with this one I never do!
I’d love to know any cruelty free and natural brands that you love! Let me know in the comments, as I still have a few items I’d like to add to my regime, particularly a body moisturiser and some nail polish. Any favourites?
