So this time next week I’m going to be BESIDE MYSELF with excitement because I’m going to Field Day!!! My personal picks from the line-up are Animal Collective, Bat For Lashes, Chvrches, Django Django, Everything Everything, How To Dress Well (who you might remember I interviewed a while ago), Kurt Vile, Metz, Solange and Vondelpark. Seeing my favourite bands is all good and well the important question is WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR? If I choose the wrong outfit then maybe Solange won’t pull me out of the crowd onto the stage to duet with her (I’m pretty sure we’re gonna become BFFs you see). If I mess this up how will I ever get to meet Beyonce?? So as you can see, the pressure is ON.
First things first (and I apologise for the banality of this) but festivals are all about the weather. Let’s take yesterday as an example – Morning: freezing, coat and jumper weather. Afternoon: too hot for a coat, but raining. Evening: sunny, so sunny it was too hot for a jumper. To say the weather is schizophrenic would be a grotesque understatement. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my time it’s that no one has fun standing in a puddle all day at a festival – or even worse – trudging through mud deep enough to ruin your shoes and jeans. I have a penchant for super expensive limited edition suede trainers so rainy/muddy festivals strike fear into my very heart. Thankfully this year Hunter wellies will allow me to dance like a lunatic, run from stage to stage and queue for overpriced food without a care in the world. Now that I have that problem dealt with all I need to do is layer my clothes enough to ensure I’m prepared for anything from snow to blistering sunshine and a bag big enough to put anything I don’t need in…
