Monsieur Robot – Topman Design AW13

I am completely broken from LCM. Thankfully the awesome clothes and the even more awesome people make it more than worthwhile. The week started with a bang when I was handed a copy of the Topman Generation magazine just as I arrived at the venue for the Topman Design AW13 show. It’s an online mag but Topman printed a few paper copies to give the LCM crowd a flavour of what Topman Generation is really all about. There’s even a little section where they asked me what I’m looking forward to wearing in SS13… They’ve currently got some awesome exclusive backstage pics from the AW13 Topman Design collection to go alongside all the rest of the mag’s content, which ranges from music exclusives to art, culture, lifestyle and most importantly videos of cats attacking printers. 

At first glance, the proper execution of ‘clashing colours’ might seem like an easy thing to achieve but it’s not, it’s an exact science. Get it wrong and it looks dreadful, get it right and you end up with something like this luscious pink and orange combination above that I’ve become mildly obsessed with. Orange was defenitely a trend for AW13, I saw it everywhere; but where many designers used darker, more typically autumnal shades, at Topman Design it verged on day-glo. The key pieces were oversized and cropped parkas, leather trousers and rucksacks trimmed with gold leather and compasses.
