Antipodium was part of the trio of shows I was properly excited about. This is a label I actually wear, you see. So going to the show is interesting on various levels – it satisfies my curiosity but it also means I can make a mental note of the pieces I want for the next season. I could go on and on about how much I loved the cat and dog print dress or how perfect the colour palette would be for me, but instead I will try and give you a real review.
The collection is called “Interiors” after the eponymous 1978 Woody Allen film. Like the film, it wants to explore the relationships that develop within families, the evolution of family members and what happens when we let our guard down and express our true frustration with each other. For this reason, the casting, tailored to the theme, included not only models, but also characters. The soundtrack featured a cover of Portishead’s “Sour Times” by Vitamin String Quartet (listen here). Very atmospheric.
The details in the collection use the imagery normally associated with home life: flowers from the garden, pets (illustrated by Swedish artist Miriam Ivanoff), even intricate lace made from cut outs of knives and forks.
Below are a few official catwalk images as these are looks I wanted to show you but didn’t manage to capture well enough.
If you want to see more from the show and backstage, watch this little video made by Shopbop. It also includes interviews with Susie and me (amongst others).
