I really enjoy seeing the collections outside of the fashion week context, when my brain doesn’t have to process tons and tons of information at the same time. I like to be able to focus on one particular detail, see the fabrics up close, touch the garments, feel the weight of them, admire the precision that goes into each individual piece.
Bottega Veneta AW11-12 collection was a sensory delight (apart from the overheated showroom). Heavy looking coats weighing close to nothing, layers and layers of silk, gauze and lace, leather cocktails, precious jewellery made to look like metal, boiled wool coats hiding delicate silk dresses… So many surprises.
The collection on the whole was influenced by the 60’s and made with the travelling woman in mind – hence the super lightweight, very comfortable fabrics used. I love the idea of warm coats that weigh no more than a tee-shirt. I am going to start thinking of ways to translate this into my Fall wardrobe in a much much cheaper way.
