Mademoiselle Robot meets Proenza Schouler

I am not a big fan of those "hire a shoe" (bowling shoe syndrome - eurgh) or "hire a bag" websites, however I like the idea of borrowing a dress for a special occasion. It is also a good way to get to wear a dress you might have missed when it came out or just to experiment with something slightly out of the box without breaking the bank.

I met Anna from Girl Meets Dress at the Next Women Dinner back in November, we had a nice chat and decided to do something together. After browsing her website, I chose to borrow this Proenza Schouler silk dress. It makes me feel like a Greek goddess / butterfly and I love it. It is not something I would have bought, but definitely something I will wear.

I don't go out as much as I used to, so it makes perfect sense for me to just borrow a dress on the rare occasions I go to some fancy do. I'd much rather wear a beautiful dress than buy one from the high street for the same price, knowing it will disintegrate after 2 nights out.

Tights - Accessorize
Shoes - Chie Mihara (absolute dream shoes by the way found in the sale in Liberty, might have to post about them)
Velvet bow - made by me (you know it because it has a cat on it)

What do you think of hiring sites? Have you tried before?

Hmmn, I've never thought about such a thing, but it seems intriguing and you make a great point about high street dresses falling apart after a few nights of living hard. I'm intrigued!

PS--I was reading up on strategies for how to deal with negative comments on blogs and I came across the video you posted a while ago and it's extraordinary! It was so smart and witty. It lifted my doldrums day.

  7. I must say that I agree with you! I am a one-bag woman but dresses are a different matter. There are more clear-cut rules for occasions and such.

  8. Beautiful dress.
I've only ever considered the bag rental.
Although a friend of mine fell in love and consequently in debt after purchasing the bag she rented.

Out of fear of the same happening to me I have avoided renting.

Also, I always misread Proenza Schouler as Proenza "Shoulder" and expect to see a shoulder dress.
    Every. single. time.
    It's ridiculous.

  9. I love the idea of borrowing a dress! It's great to not have to shell out loads of money to buy something that you may only wear 1 time and then it sits in the closet collecting dust or you grow out of it. By borrowing one it sort of makes the occasion seem even more special b/c you have this beautiful piece for one night...like Cinderella at the ball!

Btw...have I told you how great this color is on you ;)
