Another challenging dress: Erin Fetherston for Target

There is definitely a theme to this week's outfit posts: the challenging dresses. Since I have been sorting through my wardrobe and selling a few bits, I had to try on a lot of dresses to see if they would make the cut. Justin bought me this one last year, it was originally going to be my birthday dress but it didn't fit right on the boobs (damn you, boobies - did I mention how annoying it is to see your boobs get EVEN bigger than they were before after having a kid?). This shape is a bit difficult if you are on the boobilicious side of life, but there are ways around it, and some dresses of this shape have a better cut which means you can actually fit your boobs in the top without having to go a size up and wear a shapeless dress. Sorry, I kind of just threw the story of my life on you here, but it is the sad truth: some girls out there have boobage/ a big rack/ crazy bazoongas and they still want to wear cute dresses IN THEIR SIZE. I am shivering just thinking of the horrid adverts this rant about boobs is going to attract on this site. I can already imagine the emails "Dear Mademoiselle, We love your blog, and we were particularly interested by what you said about having big bazoongas so how about you give us free SEO for our line of ugly granny bras for big breasted women? Regards, John".
Well I totally didn't mean for this post to turn into a rant about my boobs, but I suppose it had to come out at some point, right? Please don't judge me. Look, I will say it one more time and then it is over "BOOBIES". There, I said it.

To cut a long story short, when I tried on this dress again I thought it was really nice and I even wore it the very same day. It is quite dressy, but with a little cami underneath and a long mannish cardigan, it works for the daytime too. I am thinking of dyeing the top black though as the white silk is a little bit too see through (but not in a good way).

Right, I am going to post this before I start regretting going on about you know what.

Dress

Dress
Coat

Dress - Erin Fetherston for Target
Cardigan - Topshop
Coat - Luella
Bag - Vintage
Shoes - Vintage, but later swapped for my Urban Outfitters Dolce Vita boots (snow snow snow cold cold cold)

ps - Yes I know I am French and I am wearing a beret, how cliché, right? But I feel a strong sense of entitlement.

  2. ahahaha...on sent que ça vient du fond du coeur..je n'ai as de problèmes avec mes "boops", a l'exception peut-être de leur présence trop discrète, por ne pas dire absence presque totale, mais j'ai le problème identiqe à case de mes bras trop longs. Et oui, des bras d'orang-outang t'obligent aussi parfois a prendre une taille au dessus pour eviter que tes chemises soient systématiquement des manches 3/4...c'est énervant..;
Et ta robe est très jolie!
Encore bravo pour cet article...et vive les bazookas!

  3. Hey, I just randomly came across your blog. You have great taste! I love that purse and cardigan.

P.S. That is so neat that you are French. I envy you! Plus, I've always wanted to learn your country's beautiful language. Also, I love wearing my beret(I am American), but I don't wear it to mock the French; I just think they're cute!

Anyway, I probably seem really weird. Sorry! Nice blog though!

  6. I have this dress in black (I just did a post about it too) and I feel your pain!
The sleeve is cut so high into the arm that, if you are heavily boobed - as you and I are, it is a challenge to lift your arms.
Whoever started the myth that an hourglass figure is the most revered is a down right lair! I can never find a dress that fits neatly on the waist as well as on the boobs. I'm forever buying a size up and making friends with a belt.
Fear not, you are not alone.

The dress looks wonderful too. Ranting aside, I love that whole collection.

  7. Ah the trials of ladies with big racks. I have to belt EVERYTHING or else it just looks like I am wearing a sack/tent. It's why I mostly wear skirts and tops now, as opposed to dresses, as it's easier to get a more form fitting look.

I love that you're wearing a beret. When I visited Paris with friend I wore a beret the whole time and she was completely mortified and pretended not to be with me but now I don't feel so bad about being a walking tourist cliché. 'See, French people actually DO wear berets I was just blending in.'

  11. You know, I have a similar dress and I can't fit in it either but I have no boobs at all! Well, nearly none. And I still feel like the buttons are going to explode any minute. So, maybe I'll wear it like you do. Good idea!

  13. You wear the dress well despite your, dare I say it, additional boobage! You've managed to style your look in a fabulous way.

Love your coat and beret too. You're a very stylish gal (with great humour too). I like that. You're a top fashion inspiration. Love it! :)

  14. Oh my! i have the same erin fetherston for target dress in black--but I don't have the same exact problem with it that you do...I tend to ignore it, because it is at once adorable and prim but in a daringly short skirt kind of way. So, in flats, I fear that I am dressed up like Madeleine--but in heels, I feel like a sexy nun Halloween costume...
I'm reclaiming it, don't worry. It is a fabulously sweet little frock.

Swiss dot sheer black tights! Now that would be something. <3 Or tiny hearts.
    xoxo,
    Gina

  15. I am right with you on the BOOBIES rant. I have almost given up on dresses completely because I have to buy them 2 sizes too big. This one is very cute though!

  16. The dress looks really cute despite the boobage problem, I have the same problem haven't even had kids, god only know what Dolly Parton proportions I would have got to if that had ever happened. I do sympathise it's such a pain, if a dress fits my boobs it's like a maternity dress at my waist, and humoungous on my shoulders, that's why I make my own!

  17. Haha this is perhaps one of your best posts. NOt that I am a bazoonga perv or anything. In fact, I am jealous of yours, mine are the puny kind.

But anyway, I love that dress. This is one challenge you won :)

  18. I especially love your hair and make-up in these pics. You look very sophisticated. :]

  19. I have this dress in all black, and my boobs just BARELY fit in it! I might be because the material doesn't stretch at all, so its a pain getting off and on. I still love this dress though, and it looks quite good unbuttoned!

  20. I laughed out loud when I read this post. I'm not on the humungous booble side, but they're definitely considerable, and my mum occasionally looks at me when I've belted something just under my boobs and tells me that it makes me look like a matron. Likewise, there have been dresses in Topshop I have been unable to wear without looking like my namesake Hattie Jacques :( Oh dear. Also, I adore that dress, and thought about buying that Topshop cardi myself. Also very VERY jealous of that beautiful Luella coat and also that fabulous bag. Loving the side fringe as well. Overall, you look amazing!!

  21. Damn- I knew there was something I forgot to write! The beret is also awesome, and don't worry about cliches, anyone who says so is just jealous of your wonderful Frenchness.
