The first time I met graphic designer Jasmine Raznahan, I kept thinking she was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen & I just had to tell her! We became good friends and to this day, she remains one of my favourite people in the world (it is a very small list, shared between London & Paris). As well as being intelligent, funny and adorable, she also has a very personal take on vintage style, which is why I wanted to introduce her to you today. Readers, Jasmine, Jasmine, readers.
How would you describe your personal style?
A little French, a little 60s, a little Annie Hall… but generally too busy and lazy to put in the full effort required to reach optimum Bardot bombshell-ness.
What are your inspirations? Designers / artists you admire most?
Currently Tim Walker, Bukowski, Tauba Auerbach, and Junya Watanabe. But mostly I am inspired by the everyday, serendipity, nature, the sea and good people.
Which of your creations are you the most proud of and why?
Working with friends is my favourite way to work, because there is a mutual appreciation and respect which only comes through knowing someone well. The last project I did was a collaboration with product designer and old friend Marc Owens. I made a book to exhibit alongside his final work at the RCA Show, and it was really interesting to find a middle ground to meet in between the two disciplines.
Which trends do you think will be big this Fall? Which ones will flop?
Not so sure about the Bad girl soft goth thing that’s going on, or the power dressing either. Plaid is an oldie but a goodie, and any dress with thick wool over-the-knee socks is a winner too.
What’s the most fashionable city in the world at the moment?
I just got back from Japan and I think their fashion is completely incredible. They have created a style from having absolutely no style whatsoever; it is so idiosyncratic the way they put things together. Londoners are well-dressed and well-groomed people, but it’s rare to see someone who makes you double take from the sheer oddness of their ensemble. In Japan, that’s pretty much every second.
Which websites do you go to regularly?
Ebay, manystuff, ffffound, chloe, apc.
Places to see nice things and sometimes buy nice things too.
What would you wear on a date?
A short smock dress to ensure I can eat as much dinner as I want and not have to hold in my tummy, and heels because they always make me feel good. Or maybe just this? Yes, I will take this, and the gentleman also…
