Rats Saw God

I started reading and already almost finished Rob Thomas' Rats Saw God. Yes, Veronica Mars' Rob Thomas. His first novel. Predictably enough, it is as good as a good episode of Veronica Mars. Same tone, same use of flashbacks, same theme. It tells the tale of Steve York, his first love, first Dada work of art, relationship with astronaut father and other various cliche teen topics.
It works though.

Read it.

ps: I MISS YOU RONNIE.

i also read it, today, whilst i was sick in bed.. i don't know why this book isn't more popular it's easily one of the best books aimed at the teen market out there, it's so intelligently written, and the characters and relationships are so complex and involved that it it doesn't deserve the stigma of being a teen book, anymore than VM deserved being called a show for teens. also what i found great about it is the depiction of the early 90s, I was 9 in 1990 so I don't remember much about it, but it's nice to read about 90s events as they were happening, and what life was like before IM and texting.

  2. I think the reason why it isn't more successful is because it is so clever... Unfortunately, clever doesn't necessarily sell :(. Especially when aimed at teenagers. I think teenagers are generally wildly underestimated. Looking back, I was probably at my most creative & clever when I was 16 or 17!
I was 12 in 1990, so not really a teenager either, but I remember clearly not having mobile phones & using phone booths & writing letter & having a great time doing so.
    SIGH.

Thanks for your comment - i always enjoy reading clever comments.
