The Rebirth of Adidas

This month, the theme is “exploration” and with that in mind I thought it was time I confess that my recent tentative exploration of the world of Adidas has tipped into a crippling obsession. I had previously been a Nike obsessive and while they have loads of great trainers and classic styles Adidas have in the past few years exploded with a mindbendingly impressive range of trainers. From re-issues of their own impressive archive  styles (Gazelles and Superstars) to designer collaborations, Adidas have blown Nike clean out of the water. Raf Simons, Juun J, Yohji Yamamoto, Kolor and even Rick Owens all produce capsule collection for Adidas and they’re some of the most interesting and innovative designs I’ve ever seen.
One small problem with all of this is where to go to buy them, or where to go to spend hours lovingly caressing them before being politely asked to leave the shop by a security guard. This week Adidas opened a bespoke retail space in offering a curated edit of all the Adidas fashion collaborations and upcoming collections. So I guess it’s time to explore Harvey Nichols now too.
