Brand Ambassadors are a funny thing. Usually it’s some actor or musician with literally nothing in common with the brand simply lending their fame or their kudos to a clothing label. Sometimes fronting a fragrance campaign complete with a cringeworthy television ad to boot. I’m happy to say Dr. Martens, true to form, haven’t gone down this route. Instead they’ve hooked up with someone who brilliantly encapsulates the spirit and cultural history of their brand. Finding someone to fit that bill can’t have been easy because there’s really only one man for the job – the bard of Salford – none other than the legendary John Cooper Clarke. The original punk poet – a man who performed with the Sex Pistols, the Fall, Joy Division, the Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees and New Order. They really don’t make them like this any more. Check out his performance of “I Wanna Be Yours” at the Dr. Martens AW14 launch below.
If that’s not enough then have a read of his awesome attempt at a haiku –
“To convey one’s mood
In seventeen syllables
Is very diffic”
Dr. Martens really nailed this whole brand ambassador thing. Check out the sweet campaign shots below.
