Mademoiselle Robot loves… The Duloks

If you haven’t seen The Duloks perform, you haven’t lived. Today, they answer my questions with their usual wit and sass. Hands up for The Duloks!

❤ How would you describe your personal style?

Mira

“Crazy lady unicorn chic” – I’m always in jeans sometimes with slogan tees that say things like “I’M KIND OF A BIG DEAL” (Anchorman) or “ASHTON PUNK’D ME” that I think are funny and get made up. I obsessively buy anything with a unicorn logo or print, rainbows are good too! I’m rarely without a hoodie – King of all warm tops and to the despair of my band mates I am happiest in bootcuts or flare jeans…I have a weird thing going on with skinny jeans…60% of the time they don’t happen for me.

Amina
Hard question to answer. How about a bit of this and a bit of that?? Quite literally- I wear skinny jeans but I don’t mind baggy hip hop jeans either. I’m big on Carhartt but going vintage isn’t a problem either. I’ve got a bit of everything.

❤ What are your inspirations? Designers / artists you admire most?

Mira

I never used to think about making a statement with clothes til I met Marina Williams an artist from Florida, she has some gorgeous accessories that you could wear naked and people would only notice the necklace and ignore the fact you had no clothes on! Marina inspires me to find colorful fun pieces and make features of them in an outfit.

Amina
I have no idea! Vivienne Westwood? I don’t really feel inspired by designers or artists because I don’t really pay attention to much of that. I am probably inspired by the mannequins I see in shop windows, subconsciously. Saying that, Marina Williams, a fabulous photographer who worked with us Duloks does make some amazing clothes that everyone admires!

❤ Which of your creations are you the most proud of and why?

Mira

My favourite look was the 2070’s Astronaut Worm style look I worked up for a night at White Heat interviewing bands. It was a reaction against the Shoreditch Trendy mob but involves a Mook puffy hoody and an American Apparel Headband…I think I confused a lot of people which I think is always “A Good Thing”

❤ Which trends do you think will be big this Fall? Which ones will flop?

Mira

Bet your bottom dollar there will be a glut of glossy magazines telling us to go for recycling fashions from last fall/winter what with the credit crunch. Look out for Oxfam Chic too as no one can even afford Primark and has to hit the granny stores.
I’m not one to predict flops, I couldn’t believe that Crocs would catch on and they did! So don’t look to me for what will fail. Just know whatever I think looks totally retarded and ridiculous will probably be worn by everyone from Kanye to Alexa….!

Amina
I think that flares might be big again. If that happens then boots will be big again too cos they go hand in hand. It’s hard to tell what will flop because people will wear anything even if it is truly hideous.

❤ What’s the most fashionable city in the world at the moment?

Mira

It’s gotta be London baby!!

Amina
London- am I biased?

❤ Which websites do you go to regularly?

Mira

I’m all over any social networking websites as I live off my friends news and pictures…I love Flickr for all my picture touching up needs and I’m a committed reader of Oh No They Didn’t – that’s my guilty pleasure..!!

Amina
ASOS even though I’m too small to fit in most of their clothes, including the ones in the petite section! Also Topshop of course and eBay! It’s all very naughty. I shouldn’t spend money I don’t have.

❤ What would you wear on a date?

Mira

Date clothes in London would be a nice girlie top with jeans or a simple dress… in LA date clothes are just “let it all hang out – show off your assets” because don’t worry, someone will always be wearing less than you in Hollywood…

LA DATE

LONDON DATE

Amina
I think it’s important to leave some things to the imagination on a date so probably jeans and a nice top of some sort, possibly showing some cleavage.
Or, I’d wear a sophisticated dress. I’d wear heels depending on where we were going. If it was down the road, I wouldn’t bother. If that makes sense!

And I leave you to dance to some Dulokery.
