While millenials drone on about “athleisure”, “sports luxe” and “all black errrythang” the fact of the matter is, all of these trends and many more were inspired in no small part by Y-3. Yohji Yamamoto and adidas have built a whole brand on these principles, a deeply influential brand at that.
For AW17 the brand took to the Palais De Tokyo in Paris to present a collection that explores the relationship between nature and technology. The collection was seen through the lens of a digital forest created by utilising an immersive set that juxtaposed dappled lighting with stark and vivd shadows. The collection was classic Y-3, an inimitable blend of Yamamoto’s signature aesthetic and classic adidas sportswear. As provocative as it was disruptive the hero pieces all featured military detailing, innovative fabrics and dynamic silhouettes. Check out a few of my favourite looks below.
