Whenever I go to Paris, my schedule is completely hectic. I used to go for the sole purpose of visiting friends and family but now I always find myself going for professional reasons and still trying to fit in some love ins with my pals. I am also slowly losing touch with my hometown as I lack the freedom to explore and roam its streets when I am there. In a bid to reclaim my city, I started staying in hotels in different areas. A couple months ago, I moved into a little room perched on top of the Legend Hotel, by the Montparnasse tower on the rue de Rennes. It is an area that’s not unfamiliar to me, as I used to go to University not too far from there (and also the original A.P.C. store, rue de Fleurus is nearby). It isn’t an overly touristy place, which makes staying there a fairly authentic Parisian experience. At the same time, you are about 10mn walk from Les Deux Magôts, which has to be the most touristy café in Paris (it is a nice place, but I prefer the Voltaire, which is another 10mn walk further, by the Seine).
The hotel itself is located in a typical haussmanian building, over 5 floors. The regular rooms are fairly small but that’s pretty standard for a 3* hotel in Paris – space there is a real luxury. If like me you are willing to overlook that and are happy to make a little nest for yourself, then you have a functional, cosy little room. Most of all, it is deliciously quiet which is another luxury in Paris. The mattresses in all the rooms are tempurpedic and there are more than enough different types of pillows to guarantee a good night’s sleep.
The only downside of the hotel is that the service (room service or customer service) is pretty much non-existant, so don’t expect to order food to your room (it is catered by an external company). This is only a small issue as you don’t have to have food in your room, especially considering since there are plenty of restaurants around, but to me room service contributes enormously to a happy hotel stay.
Aside from that little hiccup, the Legend makes for a convenient Parisian pied à terre if you have a very busy schedule and need a nest to rest in.
Rooms start from €150 with the Early Bird online discount, making it a very reasonable place to stay for a little weekend in Paris.
