Love  is available on Netflix

I have a new style crush to talk to you about: my new spirit animal is Mickey (played by Gillian Jacobs) in “Love“, the new Netflix Original created by Judd Apatow, Lesley Arfin and Paul Rust. I started watching the show last weekend, and pretty much finished the first season in one sitting. That was predictable as the storyline pretty much was made for me: 30-something hipsters in Los Angeles trying to find the meaning of life and love while being total fuck-ups. The show reminds me of some other favourites of mine: Married (now cancelled, sadly) and Togetherness. All three are pretty realistic takes on life and relationships, with no embellishments aside from a really caustic sense of humour. Watch Love (and the other two while you are at it) you won’t regret it.

As I was watching the show, I was simultaneously whatsapping a friend and we were both totally into Mickey’s outfits. Once again, the show is pretty “realistic” so don’t expect outfit changes of Rayna James proportions. Instead Mickey wears one or two outfits per episode, sometimes just changing one aspect of it to adapt it to a different situation. In the first episode, she wears high-waisted Levi’s (I believe the new Wedgie style, or perhaps vintage 501s) with a red bathing suit and clog wedges to go to a bar, then simply throws on a checked shirt and some Adidas pool slides to pop to the 7/11 in the morning. Definitely my kinda girl.

Her evening wardrobe is also the picture of L.A. laid-back style: even the sequin dress she wears to the Magic Castle seems easy breezy when she wears it. I also love the way she wears a simple denim vest as a top in the evening, with a touch of red lipstick. I made a little selection of pieces you can add to your wardrobe if you would like to emulate the Mickey look.
