Let’s talk about the seventies trend, people. It is EVERYWHERE at the moment and I am not so into it. Flares? No way – they remind me too much of being a brit-pop loving teen, wearing tee-shirts borrowed from the kids section and way too many hair clips. Fringing? I don’t know about that either, unless you are riding proud on your Harley somewhere on Route 66. Everywhere I look seems to have turned into a giant costume shop. I simply cannot. I was chatting with a friend the other night at dinner and we were imagining what it would be like to rock up to work in full seventies get-up. I do think I would get some serious looks if I showed up anywhere in a flares / peasant blouse / clogs / floppy hat combo. Being a size 12 and 5’7, I am hardly a little mouse of a girl so I would be making quite the statement… It isn’t exactly the house style, as you know. But still, I am only human and yes, the romance of a bohemian style does appeal to me… To an extent. I love to play around with floaty, ultra feminine pieces, I think I actually need to from time to time, to break the boyish, minimalistic monotony.
The Katarina top, which was a lovely gift from Kirei conjured up images of desert nights and road trips, farmers markets and other summer pursuits as soon as I slipped it on. It already travelled to California with me but it works just as well in Notting Hill for a mooch around Portobello followed by a coffee date. And yes, it would look GREAT with flares and a floppy hat, but I am not that kind of gal.
