SS14 For Your Bodyshape – Part 4: Rectangle

This is the final post of my body shape series for SS14… Next week, I will start on a new series about pregnancy style, as requested by a few of you. In the meantime, you can refer to my previous posts: hourglass, apple and pear. If you are so inclined, feel free to also watch the Body Image episode of Babe Time.

Let’s get back to the subject of the day: rectangle shaped ladies.

This body shape is often referred as an “athletic” shape and presents several characteristics but mainly that your shoulders, waist and hips have similar measurements and you generally would lack curves. The good news is: it is a very easy shape to dress. The bad news: when everything tends to suit you, it can become difficult to define your personal style.

Let’s have a look at what’s on your horizon for SS14…

Skirts

If you are pretty much straight up and down, you are best suited for all the more minimal silhouettes from this season. From Jil Sander to Saint Laurent to Kenzo, it is all about simple shapes and   monochrome palettes. That’s very much the silhouette I would love to pull off but I am more on the hourglass side of things (not by far though) so I mix it with more feminine pieces.

Trousers

When it comes to trousers, you can play the androgynous card as much as you like. Skinny trousers, narrow shirts and shrunken blazers are your friends… And of course, need I mention the suits? Aaaaah, the dream. Now you don’t have to dress like a fancy lad all the time and instead you can embrace a little bit of whimsy as seen as Delpozo and Ostwald Helgason
