Happy Place – One Aldwych, London

Last week, I was invited to stay overnight at One Aldwych, a luxury 5 star boutique hotel located in the heart of Covent Garden, just a stones throw from Somerset House (and quite handy during Fashion Week, take note people). I am not going to write a review here for you – the hotel was simply amazing – but I am going to tell you all about my staycation instead…
As you know, last weekend was my birthday weekend so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect to indulge in some much needed me time. I was booked in at the hotel spa for a Natura Bissé facial mid-afternoon, so I jumped in a cab from Notting Hill slightly early planning to take some time to take in the hotel surroundings before my treatment. I had a cup of Lapsang Souchong tea in the art-filled lobby before going to the 6th floor to get acquainted with my Deluxe Room (boasting the most wonderful view of London).
The first thing that struck me when I sat down in the lobby and later in my room was how quiet and relaxing the place was, despite its very central location. I am pretty stressed out at the moment, not to say totally wired but it all evaporated while I was at One Aldwych… and that was even before I set foot in the spa!
After an hour long facial, I felt rested and glowing… Just in time for a dip in the pool and a moment in the steam room to catch up with the other Monsieur Robot (the one I am legally bound to). Sadly I didn’t take any photos at the spa and around the pool as I had better things to do (chill out and swim, give a girl a break here). Do take a look at the pool here as it is pretty spectacular.
Once I had reached the pinnacle of chillaxation I headed back to my room in my robe, praying to avoid awkward encounters in the lift (I didn’t) and trying act casual when trapped in a lift with a stranger while in a bathrobe (I failed).

A birthday cake was waiting for me in the room as I got upstairs, with compliments from the hotel. Little touches like this make me a happy bunny.

Time to get ready for cocktails and dinner at Indigo. MCM bag, Monki dress.

We had cocktails in the lobby bar (Hibiscus Bellini for me and Bloody Mary for J) and then went up to the mezzanine to have dinner at Indigo. I won’t get into details about the food, all I can say is that everything was prepared to perfection.

Finally it was time to go to sleep and dream about the ultimate morning treat: breakfast in bed!
