Nothing is quite as stressful as planning what to wear for Fashion Week. Some people attend the shows every day, in every city, but I limit myself to menswear day, that way I can maintain some semblance of sanity. Obviously the fashion editors who jet across the globe to take their front row seats at every show have an easier job getting their hands on the clothes they want – but for everyone else the pressure is on and there’s no room for mistakes. Try too hard and you look stupid, like you don’t belong, walking back and forth past photographers desperate to get snapped is never a good look. If fashion editors have taught us anything, it’s that you should keep it simple. Not boring or plain, but refined, directional and sophisticated. Here’s my ideal outfit –
Monsieur Robot – Fashion Week Wishlist
Slashed shoulder blazer – Alexander McQueen
Acne Tee from Mr. Porter
The McQueen blazer is just the right mix of classic elegance and edgy design, a plain white tee and cropped jeans allow the Mugler shoes to do most of the talking. Fashion week involves carrying a lot of invites and paperwork so a document holder makes a better alternative to carrying a bag around. A shiny gold Gareth Pugh wallet adds a splash of metallic colour to the monochrome palette, and anyway I like shiny things… Of course my actual outfit won’t be this one because I don’t have 10 bajillion pounds to spend but maybe one day…
